I am Susan Carlson (Suzi), Republican. I was born and raised in the southeast Kansas town of Pittsburg, where my father & uncle carried on the family business started by my grandfather known as Kennett Paint & Wallpaper.

Growing up in southeast Kansas, I was raised among members of the Democratic party.  Once attaining voting age, like the majority of Pittsburg at the time, I became a registered Democrat myself for a few years.  As I became conscious to political platforms and positions as a young adult, I found my personal beliefs aligned with the Republican Party.  I have been a registered Republican for more than thirty (30) years.

I moved to Clay Center, KS in 1977 and have been a resident of Clay Center for the past forty one (41) years.  For the past twenty one (21) years I have served as Municipal Judge for Clay Center, as well as the Court Clerk.  In addition to Clay Center, I have served as Judge for the area towns of Wakefield, Green, Longford and Miltonvale.  I am married and have three (3) grown children spread among three (3) different states, with two granddaughters in Champaign, IL.

Life experiences and background that have helped prepare me to represent members of the 64th District include:

  • Municipal Court Judge – 21 years

  • MacEachern Award for Most Outstanding non-attorney judge - National Judges Association 2017

  • Served as President of National Judges Association – 2 years
